I’m Chris.

I grew up in South Africa and now live in the United Kingdom.

Since I was young, I’ve always been drawn to business, finance, numbers, and investing. All through school, I ran side hustles, tried my hand at businesses, and dreamed big.

At 21, I made my first investment and bought my first stock — and I was hooked. From that moment, I became obsessed with the markets, the numbers, and the ongoing soap opera that is the world of finance. I even started tracking every cent I earned or spent, down to the 2c I found on the sidewalk.

And… it didn’t go well.

I made all the classic beginner mistakes. I was buying and selling constantly, watching prices minute by minute, and reading every report I could find. But my portfolio mostly hovered between red and… not-so-red.

Still, I kept learning. I kept diving deeper. And eventually, I realized something big:

None of my friends or family were into this stuff.

I wanted to talk about investing. I wanted to share ideas, hear from others, compare strategies, and learn from real people — their wins, their mistakes.

Just like with any passion, you need a community.

If you want to run a marathon, you join a running club. If you love reading, you join a book club. But I looked around, Googled, asked around — and couldn’t find a finance and investing club that felt right for me.

So one day, sitting on the couch with my girlfriend (now fiancée), I told her:

I’m going to start making finance content.

A space to share my journey with like-minded people. Where others could share theirs in the comments — and I could actually reply, learn, and grow from their stories too.

Not some nose-in-the-air, jargon-packed space.

But a casual space.

Where we talk finance like you would with a mate over coffee.

And on 14 September 2021, Casual Cash was born.

The goal back then is still the goal now:

To build a space and a community for people who want to grow their wealth and passive income — to live better lives and help those they love.

To share my real journey, without any BS.

To be honest about the wins — but even more so, the losses.

To offer the knowledge and tools that have helped me — and to learn from the ones that have helped *you*.
